20th March

'Meet n Greet'

Today I met my intern and my intern partner in Costa! Vicky Parry! We have all arrange to meet in 4 days for our first jobs!

24th March

My first day properly interning! Vicky asked me to cut our a couple of patterns in paper then to cut out in calico! I didn't really learn anything new today as we have done this before. However can be very time consuming and can see why it is a tremendous help to them when they have lots of things to juggle!

So today Vicky asked me to design a couple of Badges for her jackets! They were based on military war and thought it was rather cool to have a quirky extra touch on the inside. I designed them on Photoshop, using the same colours from her fabrics which I took the RGB for by scanning them into the computer. I found this a little challenging as at first I designed a few badges however wasn't what Vicky was really looking for, however the last two was! I used some of her sketches to make as a vocal point in the badge, and looked rather legit. It was good practise using the software and Made me aware of taking details on the inside of the garment as well as the outside.

I came in for the evening and offered to help Vicky just before easter hand in. I sowed some buttons on her jacket garments and ironed her toile's! I offered to go to fabric land for her today, but she has a car :)

(2 Weeks off - EASTER)

20th April

Today again I did some more pattern cutting, however in calico and Vicky's own fabric. I learn how important the grain line is today, and to also make sure the grain line is so metrical to the grain-line on the pattern peace. Vicky also had a model come in today so she could make some alterations on how her toiles fit. I learnt that its extremely important that the clothes fit perfectly and more important comfortable, each tweak makes perfection! I scanned in all of Vicky's fabric for next week to put onto the her Clothing, on the 3D Avatar :)

26th April

Computer based today! I helped Vicky with the Lectra system today, last week I scanned in her fabrics. I helped 'pull' fabrics and untwist some garments which wouldn't fall properly on the avatar, (TOOK FOREVER). I didn't realise how much fiddling it can take! Once the garments fell correctly I put them in 3D in which I manipulated the fabrics on the clothing so they fit to the realistic garment, pulling them around, zooming in. Some of the fabrics I scanned in did express their colour enough, so quickly brightened them in photoshop re saving them so they looked better in 3D for her clothing! I did this for each garment out of the whole collection! I also in between waiting for Vicky to change some of the variants, played around with the file formats (PDF - PNG) in photoshop, leaving transparent backgrounds. When I transferred them into the Modaris system I took away the avatar and accidentally took away the garment, allowing me to see the inside structure! A happy accident! It was extremely cool and futuristic! A great technique if you had detailing on the inside of jackets that you would be able to see inside the garment and changing the camera angel allowed you to see different sides. I played na took away various parts of the shirt, sleeve, or one side panel. LOOKED SICK! And would defiantly consider using this accidetnle technique within my own work! This is Vicky Parry's work below, I only just adjusted and played with presentation.

2nd May

Day on hand in! Today I came in an hour early to help Vicky out with a few things before her hand in! I wrote on several pieces of fabric all of Vicky's contact details because her collection was going of campus! (Made me consider about presenting these little fabric slips's if I had enough time). I then sowed nearly all, beforeI started my own session, the fabric inside all of her garments to make sure they wold fall off and neatly trimmed some loose threads so her garments were more presentable! They looked great and she should be so pleased with herself, and all her hard work she has put into them!

4th May

I asked Vicky if she needed a hand with anything today as I was going to come into the studio to do some extra work, however she said how she is just working on her portfolio and there isn't much I can do! I said to let me know if she does! I popped by before I left to say hello and to see how she was doing.

11th May

I messaged Vicky on Facebook this morning and asked if she needed any help with anything today, I'm not sure if were still meant to be interning but I assume we are, however she said she was fine and again I said to just let me know if she changes her mind as I was going to be in all day for myself anyway :)

Reflecting

So far I have learnt how much effort 3rd years put into there collections and how time consuming things can be. Vicky works extremely hard and long hours to produce her work and its make me realise theres no breaks in 3rd year!
